David Volmut,
Winemaker and Owner of Wind Rose Cellars
Located in the heart of downtown Sequim at 143 West Washington Street, Wind Rose Cellars offers an intimate, elegant setting for enjoying great wine, tasty appetizers, and toe-tapping music.
Winemaker and owner David Volmut has lived in Sequim since January 2011. Before Sequim, he lived in Richland, Washington and Lawrence, Kansas.
“We are the only wine bar and tasting room in Sequim. We are open for wine tasting, wine by the glass and offering a limited menu of appetizers.”
“My family were Italian Americans. I grew up with wine on the table as a kid. It was the green beans we didn’t want to eat as kids.”
“I went to Wine school in eastern Washington for two years. One year was focused on winemaking and one year on growing grapes. I also interned at a few wineries and worked several harvests while going to school.”
“I was looking for a place to set up a wine business. Sequim didn’t seem to have a winery or a place for live music when we moved here. Sequim has a very mild climate and is a good place to make wine. Also---the people are friendly.”
Wind Rose Cellars produces award winning wines crafted from grapes grown in Washington.
“I make small lots of wines from Washington grapes. I get my grapes from Eastern Washington vineyards, mainly the Yakima Valley, Wahluke Slope and Walla Walla. I also manage the wine bar, develop the menu and prepare the food. Our menu consists mainly of small bites, which we call Wine Bites appetizers. Our most popular red is our blend Bravo Rosso. Our most popular white is our Pinot Grigio.”
The menu offers recommended pairings of wine by the glass with a choice of savory Wine Bites that currently include an Anti-pasta plate, Greek plate, Cheese plate, and Smoked Salmon Dip.
